What is Ansys?

Ansys is a software suite for computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulation. With the use of their finite element analysis software, Ansys is used to display and simulate models of structures, electronics, and prototypes for analyzing the strength, elasticity, physical dynamics, temperature, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and more. With a shift towards digital twins and virtual reality, Ansys is used to determine product dynamics within a virtual space of 2D models or computer-aided design (CAD) 3D models. Ansys’s ability to compute both linear and non-linear computational simulations produces very accurate physics representation. Their ease-of-use software allows the import of various CAD software formats to be compatible with their simulation suite. Industries use simulation suites like Ansys to test prototype products or existing products to analyze and improve upon prior to physical manufacturing. With the use of CAE and Ansys’s various uses, industries can reduce overhead cost, time, and time to market, all with the use of a computer.

Productivity Consolidated

Ansys consolidates its software suite into Ansys Workbench which manages projects from start to finish. Ansys Workbench is the integration and workflow platform connecting Ansys products. The project schematic enables users to configure their simulation processes, optimize experimentation with customizable parameters, and execute projects to solvers locally and remotely, with the flexibility of third-party support. Ansys connects the common workflows like Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Fluent, Ansys HFSS, Ansys LS-DYNA, enabling users to configure a single model for multiple simulations without having to export and import. The real world happens all at once; mechanical stress, aero/fluid turbulence, electromagnetism, and object tendencies and interactions. Ansys Workbench’s consolidated simulation management tool helps engineers study and execute simulations consecutively, all in the same user interface.

Ansys Mechanical: Structural Integrity Simulation

Ansys Mechanical is one of Ansys’s most popular CAE simulation programs. With the use of 3D models and auto meshing, digital prototypes can be stress-tested at desired regions with measured amplitude to determine failure points. Ansys Mechanical has built-in materials to choose from but also allows high customizability to change the prototype’s density, Youngs’s Modulus, tensile strength, and even thermal expansion coefficient. With immeasurable unique parameters, engineers can utilize Ansys Mechanical in countless ways, such as vibration and acoustics, fracture modeling of different materials, and even fatigue life analysis of large-scale structures like bridges or buildings. Companies like HumoTech used Ansys Mechanical to develop immense advancements, such as rigidity and flexibility, and comfort, while also reducing weight in their prosthesis exoskeleton for physical therapy rehabilitation and research.

Ansys Fluent: Computational Fluid Dynamics

Ansys Fluent is the industry’s leading fluid simulation software known for its accuracy and advanced physics modeling. With Ansys Fluent, engineers can evaluate aerodynamics and fluid dynamics of 3D models by measuring drag coefficient and flow velocity to analyze shape optimization. Ansys is used in a wide variety of industry segments, including aerospace, automotive, medical, manufacturing, and more. Groundbreaking discoveries utilize simulations in Ansys Fluent, like artificial heart transplants optimizing fluid blood flow. Companies that use Ansys fluent have developed solutions for better cooling of automotive components, HVAC functionality in different climates, and renewable energy efforts, such as wind turbines and dams. Utilizing Ansys Fluent’s fine-tuning optimization ability to measure flow, turbulence, heat transfer, and reactions can drastically improve the product design functionality prior to real-world testing. Users can develop the very best 3D model and manufacture a near-perfect prototype.

Ansys HFSS: Electromagnetic Simulations

Ansys HFSS, or High-Frequency Electromagnetic Simulation Software, is used to design and simulate high-frequency electronic products, such as antenna arrays, radio frequencies, microwave components, high-speed interconnects, circuit boards, and semiconductors. Ansys HFSS use cases include communication systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS or self-driving cars), satellites, and even the internet. On a large scale, antenna design is crucial in electromagnetic simulation to determine the optimal location for the best reach. On a smaller scale, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) are essential to the semiconductor industry and important electronics like smartphones and computer components to ensure efficient interconnection. Being able to simulate and design electronic components, EMI/EMC questions can be resolved in advance before utilizing special machinery to fabricate small yet powerful chips.

Ansys LS-DYNA: Multi-Physics Analysis and Solver

Ansys LS-DYNA is a dynamic engineering simulation solver that illustrates multi-physics deformation scenarios between multiple objects such as crash, drop, failure analysis, and more. LS-DYNA is prominent in the automotive and transportation industry with regard to product safety and meeting regulatory requirements. While holding a key role in the automotive industry, Ansys LS-DYNA’s ability to solve multi-physics problems offers an endless list of engineering capabilities, like aerospace, manufacturing, electronics, consumer products, defense, and even healthcare and civil engineering. Ansys LS-DYNA was used to develop comfortable N95 masks by simulating the pressures on a human face and mitigating the catastrophic failure of EV car batteries from collisions. Using Ansys LS-DYNA can help prevent failure to improve safety, comfortability, and more.
